A message to voters from Roy Perry, Leader of Hampshire County Council

Cllr Roy Perry is the Leader of Hampshire County Council. Roy Perry: In Hampshire, the Conservatives have welcomed new recruits from UKIP and the Lib Dems Hampshire Conservatives go into the May County Council elections in a positive spirit, with a proud record to defend and positive promises for the future. Since the last elections we have welcomed councillors joining us from the UKIP and Lib Dem Groups.  UKIP has gone down from 10 to just seven members.  Labour is so small it could hardly lose anyone. In recent by-elections Conservatives have had increased majorities. All county services are rated as “Good” and council tax is the second lowest of any county in the country. Hampshire is nationally recognised as one of the highest achieving counties. For instance the OFSTED inspection graded Children’s Services as “Good” with “outstanding leadership”. Few other councils have gained such a high rating. There are similar ratings for other services. Despite the

Library services - Conservative Hampshire is investing

Conservative Hampshire County Council is not closing Libraries but developing the them into community hubs and this strategy is underpinned by investment in Hampshire's library services. Currently 50% of our 48 libraries already have self-service facilities and, over the next 12 months, Hampshire Conservatives are planning to invest and install self-service technology in all our libraries, as part of a modernisation programme. We are also looking at the possibility of developing an Open Library Programme whereby we use digital technology to extend library opening hours, without the associated staffing costs.  Our customers will be able to use their local library when our staff aren’t there. These initiatives are designed to encourage Hampshire's residents to use their libraries more, at times that best suit our current and future library customers.  At the same time Hampshire Conservatives are making sure that we spend Hampshire taxpayers' money cost effectively.

Tom Thacker and Hampshire support for Parish Lengthsman Scheme

I was delighted that the Executive Member for Environment and Transport gave approval for the continuation of the Parish Lengthsman Scheme for the 2017-2018 financial year, with Highway funding for the participating parish and town Councils maintained at 2016/17 funding levels. I am an avid supporter of the Parish Lengthsman Scheme and was instrumental in setting up the North West Hampshire cluster, which comprises the parishes of St Mary Bourne, East Woodhay, Burghclere, Ecchinswell, Sydmonton & Bishops Green, Whitchurch, Longparish, Ashmansworth, Newtown, Hurstbourne Priors and Highclere. Each parish receives £1,000 per year, (effectively six days work), to spend on roadside work. The important feature of the scheme is that, within certain criteria, each Parish can prioritise and decide on what work the money is spent.

More about Tom Thacker

It’s been a great honour to serve the residents of Whitchurch & Clere Division for the past 8 years. Boundary changes at this election see Kingsclere residents join this division and it is now called Whitchurch and The Cleres. I recently moved back to St Mary Bourne, to where over the past 40 years I've always had a close association and commitment. During the last four years I've supported many local community projects, including the following: 1. An outside play area for Whitchurch Rising Fives; 2. A reading area for St Thomas’s CE Infant School in Woolton Hill; 3. Outside Learning at Whitchurch Primary School; 4. Notice boards for Hurstbourne Priors and Newtown; 5. Ground maintenance at the Westridge Trust, Highclere.
